Pirates' attack on Iranian cargo ship in Gulf of Aden repelled: Navy commander

Tehran, IRNA – Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Shahram Irani said on Saturday that the special forces of the Iranian Army's Navy fended off an attack by pirates on an Iranian cargo ship in the Gulf of Aden in a successful operation.

The Iranian commander said that the 78th flotilla while escorting two Iranian tankers on Saturday morning was attacked by five pirate boats, which they consider as maritime terrorism, and it was repelled by the appropriate and timely reaction of the Iranian Navy's special forces.

He noted that with the timely action by the Navy's special forces, the two oil tankers safely crossed the Gulf of Aden region, and now Iranian and other countries' vessels are passing through the area safely, and so far no particular cases have been observed in the area.
